Red Brigades' arms, papers seized
Sunday, 21 December 2003 15:11Police in Rome have seized a cache of weapons and documents that they claim belong to the militant left-wing group, the Red Brigades.
Police discovered aroung 100 kg of explosives, as well as detonators and guns, in a raid on a basement in the east of the capital. They also found false identity cards and police uniforms.
The group is the guerrilla organisation that claimed responsibility for the deaths of two political advisors, Marco Biagi and Massimo D'Antona, in Italy last year.
In October, 9 people were arrested by Italian police on suspicion of membership of the group, which is becoming more active.
The group had been responsible for a number of high-profile attacks during the 1970s and 1980s. It is believed that the 'new' Red Brigades are affiliated with the Combative Communist Party.
