His partner Jules Thomas has now begun her evidence. Mr Bailey admitted battering Miss Thomas on three occasions.

Earlier, the judge in the case excluded two witnesses from the court after Mr Bailey said they had intimidated him.

Mr Bailey said that Bill Fuller, whom he has already accused of intimidation, had said something further to him as he left the courtroom yesterday. And he said that Peter Beleiki had been glaring at him in an intense fashion.

Both men are former friends of Mr Bailey.

Mr Bailey also told Judge Patrick Moran that he suspected a garda operation had been under way where he and his partner were staying in Cork city.
