Their departure from Monrovia Airport with a convoy taking them to their base was delayed for a short time because of a number of security incidents on the road into the capital.

The incidents are unrelated to the arrival of the Irish soldiers, but are part of ongoing tension between the UN and former government soldiers over conditions for demobilisation.

The convoy was allowed to proceed after the incidents.

A total of 450 Irish troops will be involved in the UN operation.
