The controversy over east Galway's new superdump intensified today when residents said they will do everything in their power to prevent it being located in their village.

People living in New Inn said they would consider taking their protests to the European Commission.

Galway County Council said the site is the best one available and its consultant engineers told the villagers that modern landfill sites need not be 'the bad neighbours they were in the past'.
