John Waters appointed to broadcasting board

Controversial journalist John Waters has been appointed to the new board of the Broadcasting Commission of Ireland.

The Commission is responsible for licensing local and community radio stations and national independent radio and TV services.

The Commission's term of office will expire on the establishment of the new Broadcasting Authority of Ireland, the promised statutory authority which will take over the role and functions of the BCI and certain regulatory functions from the RTÉ Authority.

Barrister Conor Maguire retains his position as chairman. The other members are: former special Olympics boss Mary Davis; Kay McGuinness of the Southern Advertising Agency; Vivienne Jupp of Accenture; Barrister Mary Kerrigan; Angela Kerins of the Disability Authority; Tom Collins of the Dundalk Institute of Technology; Credit Union Boss John O'Brennan; and Joe Griffin of Ashfield College Dublin.
