Lockerbie bomber must serve 27 years

The Libyan convicted of the Lockerbie bombing has been told by a Scottish court he must spend 27 years in jail before he can be considered for parole.

The Libyan man convicted of the Lockerbie bombing has been told by a court in Scotland that he must spend 27 years in jail before he can be considered for parole.

Abdel-Basset Ali Mohammed Al Megrahi, aged 51, was found guilty in 2001 at a special Scottish Court sitting in the Netherlands of planting the bomb on Pan-Am flight 103.

The plane exploded over the Scottish borders in 1988 killing all 259 people on board as well as 11 others on the ground.

The former Libyan agent, who is in jail in Scotland, maintains his innocence.
