Calls for opposition to stem cell research

The Archbishop of Dublin has called on the government to ensure Ireland opposes allowing the EU to fund embryonic stem cell research.

The issue comes to a vote at the Council of Ministers in Brussels on Thursday.

Cardinal Desmond Connell said that such research would involve the destruction of living human embryos.
