The road haulage industry stands to lose almost ¤80m over the next 15 years if the height of the Dublin Port Tunnel is not increased, according to a new study.
The report, published today on behalf of the Transport Umbrella Group, argues that the tunnel's height should be increased so that it can accommodate so-called supercube lorries.
The research, conducted by Trinity College economist Dr Sean Barrett, says failing to increase the tunnel's height will also diminish its impact on traffic congestion and lead to accidents.
