George Redmond Trial jury begins deliberations
After five hours of deliberation in the corruption trial of the former Dublin Assistant City and County Manager, George Redmond, the jury has been sent to a hotel for the night.
Just before 7pm the jury members were called back into the courtroom at the Dublin Circuit Criminal Court, and asked by Judge Michael White if they had reached a majority verdict. They replied 'No'.
Earlier, he had told them that he would accept a majority 10-2 verdict if they could not reach a unanimous one.
Mr Redmond, 79, has pleaded not guilty to two charges alleging that he got £10,000 from Brendan Fassnidge relating to the sale of a Right of Way from Dublin County Council at the Lucan bypass.
During the 12-day trial, Mr Redmond denied that while an agent or servant of Dublin Co Council he corruptly received a gift of money on a date between 1 June 1987 and 21 May 1988 as an inducement or reward in respect of the sale of the Right of Way.
