Clash over Mayo industrial estate gate

watch

Traveller families and a group of businessmen in Castlebar have clashed over the erection of a controversial set of barriers at the entrances to a privately owned industrial estate in the town.

The company which had the steel gates erected says that up to 30 Traveller families have illegally moved their caravans into the estate and have turned it into a makeshift halting site.

The Mayo Traveller Support Group has said the gates are intimidatory and dangerous and should be removed immediately. It says the families have nowhere to put their caravans.
