No delay for Barron report: Ahern

The Taoiseach Bertie Ahern has said that the Government would not delay the publication of the Barron report into the 1974 Dublin and Monaghan bombings.

Speaking at a conference on quality in the public service, Mr Ahern said the report would go to Cabinet in a week or so and would be published afterwards.

Earlier, relatives of the 33 people who died in the 1974 Dublin/Monaghan bombings called on the Government to publish the findings of an inquiry into the attacks without delay.

The victims' group, Justice for the Forgotten, called on the Taoiseach to release the report over the next two weeks.

Mr Justice Henry Barron's report, which follows his independent investigation into the bombings, is to be presented to the Taoiseach today, but will have to be studied by the Government before it is published.
