Fine Gael has backed lobbying by the film industry for the Minister for Finance not to scrap the section 481 tax relief for the sector.

The party's arts, sports and tourism spokesman Jimmy Deenihan said Ireland will lose out on two major film projects next year if the scheme is scrapped.

He said the plans to remake the Thunderbirds TV series in Ireland, and to make a film version of the children's book Artemis Fowl would result in millions of euros being spent in the Irish economy.
