Martin Cullen
Aid scheme for landslide victims
The Minister for the Environment has told the Dáil that a Humanitarian Aid Scheme to help those affected in the recent landslides in Co Mayo will be implemented in the next few days.
Martin Cullen said the scheme would cover 'hardship' but would not be a compensation scheme for losses. He said insurance companies must face their resonsibilities in that regard.
Mr Cullen said the scheme would operate in exactly the same way as it has done before, for example, after the floods in Dublin.
The Minister also said the state had already agreed to cover 90% of temporary accommodation costs incurred by those who had to abandon their homes.
