The Taoiseach has confirmed that his then special advisor on the North, Dr Martin Mansergh, met the alleged leader of the Real IRA at Christmas 1998.
He admitted to Fine Gael leader Enda Kenny that it would have been better if he had told the Dáil about the meeting when he was questioned about the matter in the House last year.
Michael Gallagher, whose son Aidan was killed in the Omagh bombing, has described as 'quite incredible', the revelation that Martin Mansergh met the alleged leader of the Real IRA after the dissident republican group carried out the 1998 Omagh bombing.
Mr Gallagher said that 'to say the least the Taoiseach has mislead the Dail by not coming out and admitting that the meeting took place'.
Mr Gallagher said the revelation was all the more reason for a full judicial public inquiry to be held into the Omagh bombing.
'We have been told mis-truths, after mis-truths', he said.
