10 bin charge protesters jailed
Around 300 people have gathered outside Mountjoy Prison tonight to protest against the jailing of ten anti-waste charge protesters.
The prison service says two of the protesters are being held at Cloverhill prison for 'operational' reasons.
The protesters were imprisoned earlier today for defying a High Court order banning them from taking part in bin lorry blockades.
Nine were jailed for two weeks, and a tenth protester, who told the court that she is a breastfeeding mother, was jailed for a week.
As the sentences were handed down by Miss Justice Mella Carroll, there were shouts of 'shame on you' from supporters of the protesters in the court.
