Anti bin charge protests are set to escalate after unions affiliated to the Dublin Council of Trade Unions endorsed a coordinated campaign of opposition to service charges.

The campaign will kick off this Saturday with a rally and march from the Garden of Remembrance to Mountjoy Jail where Joe Higgins TD and Councillor Clare Daly are currently in custody.

A number of delegates at tonight's meeting said their members were angry about criticism of the protest voiced by ICTU general secretary David Begg.

And Dublin City Council will attempt to have twenty five anti waste charge protesters jailed or fined tomorrow morning, for blocking its bin lorries.
