Mayo landslide
Homes still at risk
Some of the 42 families forced to move out of their homes and farms by a landslide in north Mayo could soon be returning to the area.
It follows a meeting between Mayo Co Council officials and local people this afternoon.
Geological experts told 28 of the families that their homes are in the 'low to medium risk' zone, and they can now consider returning. However, they said the final decision rests with them.
The remaining 14 houses in the area are still regarded as 'high risk', and the council strongly advised those families not to return to their houses at this time.
The council says it will continue to brief the families in the coming week.
The Dooncarton Landslide Committee is to issue a formal invitation to the President and the Taoiseach to visit the area to see for themselves the scale of the damage caused by the landslide two weeks ago.
Residents are also demanding early action on an aid package and steps to help them get their lives back to normal.
Geological experts are continuing to monitor the landslide zone.
