Blast kills ten in south Colombia

A remote control bomb attached to a motorcycle has killed 10 people and injured 48 in Florencia in southern Colombia.

The bomb exploded at about 3.00am (local time) in the Zona Rosa district in Florencia, 335 km south of the capital, as revelers were leaving the pubs to go home.

The authorities blamed the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia, better known as FARC, for the attack. Two police officers were among the dead.

Florencia is near a former demilitarised area the government handed over to FARC rebels to hold peace talks that eventually failed.

The 17,000-strong FARC, which has been fighting the state for four decades, has a strong presence in the area.
