Kofi Annan
Call to broker peace
Three people were killed when a Palestinian gunman attacked a Jewish settlement in the West Bank overnight.
A two-month-old Israeli girl was one of the victims; another Israeli and the Palestinian were also killed.
The UN Secretary General, Kofi Annan, has called on Israeli and Palestinian leaders to accept further international assistance to broker peace.
He was speaking in New York at a meeting on the fringes of the General Assembly.
Meanwhile, the US Secretary of State, Colin Powell, has called on the Palestinians to put in place measures to stop acts of terrorism against Israel.
