On the traffic accident involving Fianna Fáil TD GV Wright, the Taoiseach said that driving under the influence of alcohol was not to be tolerated.

Speaking from the United States, Mr Ahern said this is why that case is being dealt with by the DPP and the gardaí.

The Taoiseach said that his main concern was for the injured woman and the party sent her its sympathies and best wishes.

Earlier, Ann Butler, the woman injured in last week's traffic incident in Dublin, said she is disappointed that she has not yet been contacted directly by the TD to apologise.

Ms Butler said her right leg was broken in four places.

Deputy Wright is facing prosecution after admitting that he failed an alcohol breath test after the incident in the north city centre last week.

In a statement yesterday, Deputy Wright said he wished to apologise unreservedly to the person he injured and to her family.
