An investigation has begun between some councils in the Southeast and at least one council in the North in relation to illegal dumping.

An investigation has begun between a number of County Councils in the South East and at least one District Council in Northern Ireland in relation to illegal dumping in the North of waste produced in the South East.

Strabane District Council has been in touch with Wexford County Council and others following reports that around 100 tons of commercial and domestic waste was dumped illegally at a site near Strabane in the past week.

The council is investigating reports that some of the waste was brought by lorry from the Gorey/Enniscorthy area, 200 miles from where it was dumped.

Waste operators need specific licences to dump material in other jurisdictions.
