Two apologise over bin protests

Two men who were arrested in Blanchardstown in west Dublin this morning in the ongoing bin collection protests have apologised to the High Court.

Two men who were arrested in Blanchardstown in west Dublin this morning in the ongoing bin collection protests have apologised to the High Court.

They have also given an undertaking not to obstruct or impede future waste collection.

A further seven men and two women who were also arrested are due in court in the morning.

They have been released by gardaí after giving an undertaking that they would come before the court tomorrow.

Protest outside Mountjoy Prison last night

Last night, several thousand people took part in a demonstration outside Mountjoy Prison in Dublin.

They were calling for the abolition of waste charges and the release of Dublin West TD Joe Higgins and Councillor Clare Daly.

The two were jailed for a month last Friday for breaching court orders preventing them from obstructing waste collection in the Fingal County Council area.
