Geoff Hoon, More troops going to Iraq
George Bush, Seeking support from allies
In a television address in Washington, Mr Bush said Iraq was now the central front in the global war against terror.
He called on allies of the US to forget pre-war tensions and to lend support for US-led plans for the reconstruction of Iraq.
Britain's Defence Secretary, Geoff Hoon, has announced that an additional 1,200 British troops will be sent to Iraq.
The extra troops, who will join 10,000 British soldiers already in the south of the country, are thought to be needed because of the worsening security situation.
