A 13-year-old boy was fatally injured yesterday evening on a building site in Mullingar, Co Westmeath.
The boy was playing in large concrete pipes on the site with his sister and two others when one of the pipes collapsed on him.
The boy was taken to Mullingar Hospital where he died shortly afterwards.
A post mortem examination will be carried out at the hopsital.
The Gardaí and the Health and Safety Authority have begun a joint investigation into the incident.
Gardaí have not released the name of the boy yet, but it is understood the boy's family are not originally from the area.
