Luas to be on time, says Minister

Transport Minister Séamus Brennan has said he has been told by the Railway Procurement Agency that the Luas Project would be finished within budget and on time.

The minister was responding to reports that the contractors building the system were claiming extra funds to complete the project.

Mr Brennan said it was his information that the Sandyford line would be completed by July 2004 and the Tallaght line by August 2004.

It is now estimated that the Luas project will cost in the region of ¤765 million.

Minister Brennan said people would be proud of Luas when it was up and running next year.
