Business men in Kilkenny City have strongly criticised the local Council for threatening fines against people who hang flags from their premises.

A number of leading business men in Kilkenny City have strongly criticised the local Council for threatening fines against people who hang flags or banners from their premises in the run up to next week's all-Ireland Hurling Final.

Kilkenny Council had sent out letters warning individuals and businesses that they were breaking planning regulations by displaying flags and banners without having approved planning permission.

The Council says the order is against all unauthorised signs and flags, not just Kilkenny Hurling banners.
