An emergency session of the Liberian parliament has overwhelmingly endorsed President Charles Taylor's decision to step down.

An emergency session of the Liberian parliament has overwhelmingly endorsed President Charles Taylor's decision to step down.

Power is due to be handed over to Vice President Moses Blah on Monday.

The vote, taken in Mr Taylor's absence, was carried by 46 votes to one.

Meanwhile, thousands of Liberians lined the streets of the capital, Monrovia, cheering West African peacekeepers who arrived in the country on Monday.
