The chairman of the North's Policing Board has called for a full report into an incident inside Lisburn police station in which a policewoman was hit by a man wielding an iron bar.
The woman was critically injured while two other officers were also injured in the incident.
Professor Desmond Rea said it was a vicious attack which had left two police officers with very serious injuries.
He said while details were still emerging, the incident raised very serious questions.
Prof Rea said he had asked Chief Constable Hugh Orde to provide a full report to the next board meeting.
A man, believed to be from the Kildare region, has been arrested in connection with the attack.
