The dissident Ulster Unionist MP, Jeffrey Donaldson, has said there is only one more chance to restore devolution to the North. But he claimed it would not be done on the basis of the British/Irish joint declaration.

The declaration, released in May deals with outstanding issues over the implementation of the Good Friday Agreement.

Mr Donaldson said a return to devolution would require Unionist unity, and an end to paramilitary activity and to what he called witch-hunts against the police and British army.

He described the current state of unionism as 'dysfunctional' and said he would spend the coming weeks trying to reach consensus.
