A government spokesperson in Hong Kong has said that 11 people have been admitted to a Hong Kong hospital to be tested for SARS.

The spokesman said the 11, who were transferred from a psychiatric institution, all have respiratory problems, such as fever and coughs.

The development comes about one month after the World Health Organisation declared Hong Kong free of the Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome virus.

The SARS outbreak killed about 300 people and severely damaged Hong Kong's economy.
