Jeffrey Donaldson Calls for support
The Ulster Unionist MP, Jeffrey Donaldson, has called on influential figures in the party to support him in his challenge against party leader, David Trimble.
Mr Donaldson made the call during a speech to Orangemen taking part in the 12 July celebrations in Hillsborough, in Co Down.
His initiative follows yesterday's decision by a senior Ulster Unionist, Sir Reg Empey, to abstain from a vote aimed at disciplining Mr Trimble's opponents.
Mr Donaldson said that the party could implode if Mr Trimble continued to pursue what he described as a 'vendetta against his critics'.
