An Post has missed a deadline set by the communications regulator for it to renegotiate the fee it receives from international postal operators for processing their deliveries to Ireland.

Comreg says it has agreed to an application to extend the deadline from 7 July to 22 July, after receiving representations from An Post.

An Post lost €14m last year processing international inbound mail.

Separately the semi-state company has requested an increase in the cost of a basic stamp from 41c to 48c.

Comreg is currently engaged in public consultation on whether to agree to the increase.
