Gilligan appeal hears of 'inconsistencies'

John Gilligan's appeal has heard there were inconsistencies in the manner in which the Court acquitted him for the murder of Veronica Guerin.

John Gilligan's appeal has heard there were enormous inconsistencies in the manner in which the Special Criminal Court acquitted him of the murder of Veronica Guerin and then went on to convict him on drugs offences.

John Rogers, SC for Gilligan, also said that the court was wrong to admit the testimony of protected witnesses Charles Bowden and Russell Warren.

He said that in allowing this testimony the court became involved in a process that was poisoned.
