Immigrant cases up 140% - Council report

The Immigrant Council of Ireland has reported a 140% rise in the number of immigrants using its services over the past three months.

The ICI is the national agency working for the rights of all immigrants, mostly migrant workers.

The Chairperson, Sister Stanislaus Kennedy, has called for Government to change the way work permits and long term residency permits are given out.

Sister Stan has said the Government must allow family members of migrant workers to accompany them to Ireland.

She said that currently migrant workers leave their families not knowing when they will be reunited.
