New bill to amend statute on injury claims

Personal injury claims will have to brought within one year under the terms of a new bill which amends the Statute of Limitations.

The bill, according to an article in The Sunday Business Post, would also introduce new provisions affecting the law of perjury and would significantly reform civil court proceedings.

Justice Minister, Michael McDowell told representantives of the Law Society at a recent briefing that under his new bill, a judge would be given power to dismiss a personal injury claim which turned out to be deliberately false.
