Govt failing organic farmers say Greens

The government has failed organic farmers says Green Party leader, Deputy Trevor Sargent.

The Green Party Leader, Deputy Trevor Sargent, has said the announcement today that the Irish supermarket group, Superquinn, had purchased 140 acres of land in Fingal, North County to source fresh organic produce for their stores, was a testament to the failure of the Government and the Department of Agriculture to support Irish organic farmers.

Mr Sargent claimed the Government had failed miserably to supply the necessary training and funding to ensure the sustained growth of the organic sector.
