Taipei Municipal Ho Ping Hospital quarantined
Health authorities in Canada have reported two more deaths from Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome, bringing the death toll there to 18.
Canada is the country hardest hit outside Asia. Up to yesterday, 330 cases of SARS had been reported there, with the majority in Ontario province and its capital Toronto.
All of the deaths have occurred in metropolitan Toronto.
4,000 quarantined in Beijing SARS battle
Beijing has sealed off another hospital and ordered 4,000 people to stay at home to prevent the spread of the pneumonia-like SARS virus.
The government has brought in emergency measures to quarantine people with the disease, but denied rumours that it planned to invoke martial law.
Today, China announced five more deaths from SARS, while six more people have died in Hong Kong.
Two deaths have been reported from the Philippines, the first in that country.
The virus has killed more than 260 people worldwide.
Asian health chiefs in SARS talks
Senior health officials from South East Asian countries met in Malaysia today to discuss how they can work together to combat SARS.
Ten member states of the Association of South East Asian nations are taking part, together with representatives from China, Hong Kong, Canada, Japan and South Korea.
The World Health Organisation has told Canada that its warning against travelling to Toronto because of the SARS epidemic will not be lifted.
The Canadian government had strongly criticised the travel alert, saying the outbreak was coming under control.
