A controversial meat and bonemeal incinerator planned for County Tipperary is not to go ahead.

The animal rendering company, Ronan Industries, has decided to discontinue its plans to build an incinerator at its premises at Rosegreen, between Cashel and Clonmel.

The company is also withdrawing its planning and EPA applications.

The incinerator was due to be built near Aidan O'Brien's world famous Ballydoyle racing stables. The horse trainer had threatened to take his business abroad if the incinerator went ahead.

Millionaire racing enthusiast, John Magnier, had also objected to the proposal.

A statement from the Ronan family said they were concerned about the serious divisions which had arisen in the local community, and for this reason, they say they have reluctantly decided to discontinue the project.

Ronan Industries reiterated that their project was based on sound environmental principles, and that it would not have had any adverse effect on the local area or the people living there.

Aidan O'Brien is reported to have now agreed to drop an action against the Ronan's rendering business.

The agreement between the two parties is believed to make no mention of monetary compensation for either side.

Around 20,000 people had signed petitions objecting to the development in the area, known as the Golden Vale.
