Derek Wilford denied he had not adequately informed the Brigade staff or that he acted beyond his orders when he sent soldiers into the Bogside.
Lieutenant Colonel Derek Wilford, the former commanding officer of the first battalion the Parachute Regiment, gave evidence for two and a half hours this morning on the 313th day of the enquiry.
Counsel for the Saville Tribunal, Christopher Clarke, continued to examine the orders the paratroopers were given to deal with the situation following a prohibited civil rights march.
The chairman, Lord Saville, made a number of interventions as Colonel Wilford was giving evidence.
His enquiry is beginning to probe what could be one of the most significant aspects of Bloody Sunday: whether or not the paratroopers had exceeded the orders from brigade staff when they entered the Bogside in armoured vehicles.
