New Policing Boards launched in North

Updated: 13:51, Wednesday, 19 March 2003

The new District Policing Boards in the North have been officially launched at a conference in Belfast.

The District Policing Boards were part of the Patten recommendations for changes in the structure of policing.

Twenty-nine groups have been established across the North involving Unionist and Nationalist politicians and an equal number of Independent members.

The aim is to give local people a greater say in how policing is delivered at a community level. Sinn Féin did not apply to join any of the groups.
