Irish people living in Iraq have been 'strongly advised' to leave the country immediately.

The Department of Foreign Affairs says that as all EU missions have now withdrawn from Baghdad it will not be possible to give assistance to any who remain.

Irish citizens are also advised, in a new warning issued by the Department, to leave Kuwait as quickly as possible. If they must remain, they should advise the Irish consulate.

The Department is warning against all travel to the West Bank and Gaza, and anyone there is advised to leave.

Warnings against non-essential travel are in place for Israel, Saudi Arabia and the Gulf States, Syria, Jordan and Yemen.
