Gardaí are investigating the circumstances which led up to the incident.

The man, who is presumed drowned, has been named as Jonathan Skerritt from Ballymurn outside Enniscorthy.

Gardaí have questioned a number of people in relation to a reported altercation in the town last night.

A row is believed to have occurred before the emergency services were called out to search for Mr Skerritt.

It is understood the 20-year-old went into the river shortly after 12.30am this morning. He has not been seen since.

No-one has been arrested but the gardaí say they are following a definite line of enquiry.
