The Diabetes Federation of Ireland says it is to challenge a ban on diabetics entering certain professions.
According to the federation Ireland's 200,000 diabetics still suffer discrimination in the workplace.
Type 1 diabetics are prohibited from working in the Gardaí, armed forces and emergency services.
Dr Tony O'Sullivan, a spokesperson for the Federation, says blanket bans are a lazy option for employers and are inappropriate in the context of modern treatments for diabetics.
