Srebrenica relatives to get €1.8m compensation

Updated: 10:35, Friday, 7 March 2003

The leading human rights court in Bosnia has ruled that the Bosnian Serb authorities have to pay about €1.8m in compensation for the massacre of 7,000 Muslims in Srebrenica in 1995.

The compensation is to be paid to the relatives of those killed by Bosnian Serb forces, Europe's largest massacre since the Second World War.

The panel of mainly international judges said the Bosnian Serbs had not told the truth about the fate of the victims and were therefore in breach of the European Convention of Human Rights.
