Work halted on stretch of Port Tunnel

Work on part of the Dublin Port Tunnel has stopped following subsidence along a stretch of the project.
Iarnród Éireann made the request for the work to be stopped on the part of the tunnel which goes under railway lines at Fairview on the city's north side.
A spokesperson for the City Council has said that tunnelling is continuing as normal elsewhere.
The first problem arose when it was noticed that two supports underneath an artificial 'roof' which had been through the railway embankment had become stressed.
There was also some minor subsidence in the floor section.
Removing the earth from under this 'roof' to create the railway underpass was subsequently stopped.
A spokesperson for Dublin City Council said a meeting between the engineers from Irish Rail and the Council will take place this afternoon.
Meanwhile, the Marino Action Group has called for all work on the tunnel to stop pending an independent review of the project.
