South Korean subway probe widened

Updated: 09:09, Sunday, 23 February 2003

Police in South Korea have expanded their investigation into a subway fire amid mounting anger among family members over the slow process of identifying bodies.

The toll in Tuesday's arson attack stands at 133 but is expected to rise with more than 300 people listed as missing.

Over 100 people are still in hospital, some in a serious condition.

Police say at least ten subway staff, including two train drivers, will be charged with negligent homicide for failing to respond swiftly to the danger or to evacuate passengers promptly.

Managers of the Daegu subway system will also be questioned.
