The Supreme Court has reserved judgement in the Carrickmines Castle case until 10 am on Monday.

The Supreme Court has reserved judgement in the Carrickmines Castle case until 10 am on Monday. Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown Council has given an undertaking to the court that no excavation work will take place on the site over the weekend.

Protesters trying to save the medieval Carrickmines Castle site in south Dublin went to the Supreme Court this morning in a bid to prevent Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown Council from removing the perimeter wall.

Earlier this month in the High Court, Mr Justice Lavan refused to grant them an interlocutory injunction preventing the Council from carrying out the work.

Today Frank Callanan, representing the protesters, said the central provision of their case was that the National Museum did not give its consent for the work to take place as was required under the National Monuments Act.
