The Ulster Defence Association has said that its West Belfast Brigade has endorsed a new leader.

The Ulster Defence Association has said that its West Belfast brigade has endorsed a new leader.

The unit had been headed by Johnny Adair, whose leadership had been at the centre of the recent feud, which resulted in a number of attacks and killings.

The new leader is believed to have been be one of Adair's closest associates, until he broke with him in the course of a bitter power struggle.

In a statement the paramilitary organisation said it would restore order and it condemned those behind three recent murders, which it said were not about patriotism, but greed, money and power.
