Man arrested after dismembered bodies found

British police investigating the murders of two women whose dismembered bodies were found among rubbish say they have arrested a male suspect.

The man is being held at a police station in Greenwich, southeast London, where murder squad detectives are due to interview him.

The murder inquiry began on Monday after a homeless man found pieces of human legs in a bin bag behind a pub in Camden when he was rummaging for food.

He took them to a hospital, which alerted the police. Later the torso of a young woman was found in a rubbish bin. Police then found several carrier bags containing other body parts.

Several body parts, including the heads of the victims, are still missing, as officers continue to search the area in north London, where the remains were found.

Forensic experts are trying to establish the identity of the victims, but believe they were not related.

One of the women was in her late teens or early 20s and the other in her 30s or 40s. It is thought they died within the last seven days.

Yesterday, police publicly named Anthony John Hardy, who is in his 50s, as the owner of the flat in Camden, north London, where part of a human torso had been found.
