John Gilligan admitted to hospital

The convicted drug dealer John Gilligan has been admitted to hospital in Dublin.

He was taken under armed escort to St James' Hospital this afternoon from Portlaoise Prison. It is understood he is having a pace-maker fitted.

Gilligan, who is 52-years-old, is serving a 28 year sentence for smuggling cannabis.
